After studying music in the “Conservatorio Provincial de Música
Julián Aguirre” in Río Cuarto (Córdoba-Argentina)
under the guidance of vocal coach Prof. Lydia Latorre de Ornaghi, Laura Rizzo
graduated in both piano and voice.
Receiving scholarships from the “Fundación Teatro Colón”
and Rotary Club International, she continued her training in the “Instituto
Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón”.
She was named first place winner in the international contests of singing “Luis
Sigall” in Viña del Mar (Chile) and “Ciudad de Logroño”
(Spain).
Since her debut singing Gilda in “Rigoletto” in the “Teatro
Argentino de La Plata” she has continued with an extense activity throughout
the world, singing in the leading theaters and concert halls of France, Spain,
Luxemburg, England, Germany, Portugal, The Canary Islands, Malaysia, South Africa,
Costa Rica, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and Argentina.
In the Teatro Colón of Buenos Aires she has sung the leading lyric coloratura
roles in: “ Rigoletto”(Gilda), “Magic Flute” (Queen
of the Night), “ Idomeneo” (Ilia), “The Love for Three Oranges”
(Ninette), “ The Tales of Hoffmann” (Olympia), “Dido and Eneas”
(Belinda), “L´Enfant et les sortileges” (Nachtigall), “Carmina
Burana” and “ Lucia di Lammermoor”, among others.

At the present time, she is also a member of the “Teatro Colón
Chamber Opera”; having sung in the productions of: “ L´Ocassione
fa il ladro” (Rossini) and “Der Kaisser von Atlantis”(Ullman).
She has also sung roles of the Zarzuela repertoire, including “Doña
Francisquita” and “Marina” in numerous theaters in Spain,
Portugal and Argentina and also performed with the well-known “Antología
de la Zarzuela” under the direction of José Tamayo.
Her recordings include: the Queen of the Night from “Magic Flute”
for the sound-track of the documentary film “La Banda de Mozart”
co-produced by the Spanish RTV and the BBC of London; with the Symphonic Orchestra
of Tenerife (Spain); “New Winds for the Opera” with the Colón
Opera Concerto; and the promotional CD of the Gala Lírica “Mirelle”
for Shering Laboratories.
She participated in concerts of “The Three Sopranos” in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia. In the Palais Omnisport of Paris-Bercy, Laura Rizzo sang the role
of Olympia in “Tales of Hoffmann”, staging by Jerome Savary under
the direction of Jean-Claude Casadesus.
Laura Rizzo has been nominated four times by the Asociación de Críticos
Musicales Argentinos, as Best Singer of the Year; which she won for her appearance
in Lucia di Lammermoor.
